Yoga classes at Gertrude Street Yoga & Healing Studio are suitable for all levels of experience and ability, ranging from a gentle to a dynamic practice.
Opening the body for us at Gertrude Street Yoga Studio means opening to and refining a deep sensitivity and responsiveness to life, deepening awareness and self understanding.
There is no one yoga form specific to Gertrude Street. Our teachers come from eclectic backgrounds with training in and inspirations from various yoga forms including; Mandala Yoga, Iyengar, Vinyasa, Vidyana, Anusara, Prenatal, Yoga of Sound, Therapeutic Yoga, Ashtanga, Scaravelli, Oki-Do and meditation, dance & theatre techniques.
At Gertrude Street we aim to engage and open all aspects of our lives. Integrity in action is a constant theme found in all our classes, whether you do a gentle, general or dynamic class. Progress in yoga comes from how you integrate the fundamental principals of movement and embodiment. In addition to the physical practices of yoga asana, we offer an opportunity to discover and experience the subtler aspects of yoga, refining the practice through heart and mind with pranayama, chanting, yoga nidra, contemplation, discussion, partner work and meditation. Students may choose to deepen their experience by progressing from a gentle to general to a more dynamic class or may choose to remain with and deepen a gentle practice.
Progress in yoga does not necessarily mean mastering more difficult postures it is more intelligently assessed by how it is helping you live with more wisdom and heart.
